非核・平和都市宣言

私たちのまち まいばら には
青い空と緑にはえる山々
清流のせせらぎ
みのり豊かな田園
母なるめぐみの湖（うみ）がある

まちかどや広場には
子どもたちの歓声が
若者たちの歌声が
軒先からは人々の
静かな語らいがきこえてくる

遠く海をこえた かなたにも
同じ人々のくらしと
しあわせがある

しかし 今
地球をおおう核の脅威は
あらゆる命のいとなみを破壊し
かけがえのない平和を
一瞬にして 奪いさろうとしている

私たちは 知っている
核兵器が
生きとし生けるもの
すべてを破滅しつくして
何も もたらさないことを

私たちは 知っている
すべての人間が手をつなぎ
平和な明日に向かって
力をよせあうことが
どんなに大切で
すばらしいかを

悲惨なヒロシマ ナガサキの体験から
核兵器を「持たず 作らず 持ち込ませず」の
非核三原則を全世界に訴え
戦争の放棄 恒久の平和を誓った
平和憲法を
私たちは 守ります

人々の明日にとって
子どもたちの笑顔が
若者たちの明るい未来が
いきいきとした命のいとなみが
永遠に続くことを願っている

私たちは 訴えます
核を持つすべての国々に
すべての核兵器を 今 すてよ！ と

この市民の声と 願いを
世界に広く訴えるため
ここに米原市は
「非核・平和都市」を宣言する

The Maibara Nuclear-free and
Peace Declaration

In our city Maibara
There are green mountains vividly contrasted with blue sky
Murmurs of clear streams
Abundant fields
And our Mother Lake.

In the streets and squares
We hear children cheering
And young people singing.
In the neighborhoods
Heart-felt conversation can be heard.

Far beyond the Oceans
People have their own lives and their own happiness.

But now
The growing nuclear threat endangers the entire world
To wipe out every single life
And ruin our fragile peace
In a flash.

We know
Nuclear weapons can annihilate every creature under the sun
And leave nothing but devastation.

We know
How important it is
For people all over the world to join hands with each other
And work together
For a bright and peaceful tomorrow.

From our horrible experiences in Hiroshima and Nagasaki
We appeal to the whole world
To abide by the three non-nuclear principles
“not possess”, “not manufacture”
and “not introduce nuclear arms” into your country.
And we support Japan’s “peace” Constitution
That has proclaimed renunciation of war and “peace for all time”.

In our future
We hope
Children’s angelic smiles,
Young people’s bright future,
And people’s happy and energetic life
Will continue eternally.

We appeal
To every nuclear power
“Renounce all nuclear weapons right now!”

To convey the sincere wish of us citizens’
To every corner of the world
Here we declare Maibara City a “nuclear-free and peace city”.
